Trichy: Sadiq Batcha, a close aide of former telecom minister A Raja, was murdered in 2011, K Prabhakaran, an insider, confessed on Wednesday.

A 24-year-old man from Ariyalur district’s Ayyur village in Tamil Nadu claimed that he and two others murdered Batcha. He also alleged that Jaffer Sait, former state police intelligence chief, and Paramesh Kumar, one of Raja’s close relative, also played a pivotal role in the murder of the former telecom minister’s aide.

In a statement to the media, Prabhakaran said, “We killed Sadiq Batcha at the office of Green House Promoters in T Nagar in the late hours on March 16, 2011. Jaffer Sait strangulated Sadiq Batcha with a towel and Paramesh Kumar pressed his knee on Sadiq’s neck while I was holding his legs. Later, Paramesh Kumar and his aides hanged the body in the house of Sadiq Batcha to make it look as if it was suicide.”

Prabhakaran alleged Batcha was killed after he passed on information on the 2G scam to the investigating agency CBI which were apparently not in ‘favour’ of prime accused in the case A Raja. The 24-year old, however, clarified that Raja had no role to play in Sadiq Batcha’s murder.

Batcha was found hanging in his Chennai residence in March 2011 in a time when the billion dollar 2G spectrum scam was at its peak.

The case, which continues to be with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), was earlier seen as a suicide case.
