New Delhi: The flag carrier airline of India is not new to criticisms from its passengers. In a bid to improve its image, Air India announced that the commanders will greet the flight passengers with ‘Jai Hind’ (Long live India) after each in-flight announcement.
Air India has been repeatedly criticised for its lack of sensitivity towards flight issues faced by its passengers, inhospitality towards their concerns, and most notoriously, developing a penchant for delayed flights.
Ashwani Lohani, Chairman and Managing Director of Air India, said, “The captain of a flight should often connect with passengers during the journey and, at the end of first address, using the words ‘Jai Hind’ would make a tremendous impact.”
Lohani went on to add that the slogan will instill patriotic spirit in the passengers. He also remarked that the crews in Air India should put a smile and be courteous and polite to the passengers.
Apart from the fact that whether the use of the slogan will alleviate the problems faced by the passengers or not, Air India has to deal with the probability of an image make-over.
