Following a spike in the number of Monkeypox cases in the nation, three central government hospitals have established isolation rooms for the treatment of such diseases, according to reports.

“The isolation rooms for the treatment of Monkeypox patients are operational in three major central government hospitals i.e Safdarjang hospital, RML hospital and Lady Hardinge hospital,” official sources told ANI.

On Tuesday, the Delhi Government made an official declaration about the preparation of isolation rooms in public and private hospitals. The Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital has 20 isolation rooms, whereas Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital (GTB) has 10 isolation rooms and Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital has 10.

Notably, the Delhi government has also asked private hospitals to provide isolation rooms for Monkeypox patients. Kailash Deepak Hospital in East Delhi, MD City Hospital in North Delhi, and Batra Hospital and Research Centre in Tughlakabad in South Delhi are the three hospitals.

So far, India has documented eight cases of monkeypox, five from Kerala with a history of overseas travel and three from Delhi with no recent travel history.

On Monday, the Joint Secretary of the Union Health Ministry wrote to Dr Hussain Abdul Rahman, Executive Director and IHR focal point in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), requesting that persons exhibiting symptoms suggestive of Monkeypox disease be denied boarding to reduce the risk of disease transmission.
