Katihar: An overcrowded boat sunk in the Ganges near Singal Tola, Bihar, drowning at least eight persons while 20 others swam to safety. The overcrowded vessel capsized in the Ganga river in Manihari area in Katihar district, police said.
The unfortunate incident occurred when workers from their fields were returning by the boat. The boat could not bear the overload and capsized, circle officer Chandra Kumar of Manihari said.
The injured were being treated at Manihari primary health centre, the official said.
