Delhi: Former Pakistani leg-spinner Danish Kaneria arrived in India on Tuesday with his family and is currently residing in Kochi.
The former cricketer has claimed that he and his family came to India to perform certain religious rituals. “My family is in India to perform some religious rituals which will take around 10-days. Our return dates are not confirmed as yet,” Kaneria told a television channel.
However, speculations are rife that the real purpose of Danish’s visit to India might be to seek a livelihood and settle down here in India.
The leg-spinner who played 61 Test matches for Pakistan was banned by the England and the Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for life for alleged fixing in 2012.
Kaneria’s involvement in match-fixing is yet to be proven in a court of law, but ECB and PCB have maintained the life ban on him.
