New Delhi: In the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to United States, the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR), have agreed to admit India in its league. MTCR is an informal and voluntary partnership among 34 countries to prevent the proliferation of missile and unmanned aerial vehicle technology capable of carrying a 500 kg payload for at least 300 km.

This admission into the partnership is being seen as a win for Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he meets US President Barack Obama in Washington on Tuesday.

Experts on the matter informed that the deadline for the members of the 34-nation group to object to India’s admission had expired on Monday without any of them raising any objections.

Inclusion in the MTCR would open the way for India to buy state-of-the-art, high-end missile technology from its member countries, just as the United States does.
