New Delhi: At least two Pakistani drug smugglers were killed and another injured in a gunfight with Border Security Force (BSF) in Fazilka district of Punjab on Sunday.

The incident took place at a border out post called Sawana at around 2:30 am.

Following the encounter, the security force recovered fifteen packets of heroin and weapons from the assailants, including two pistols and a boregun.

According to a recent survey, there are an estimated 2.3 lakh opioid-dependent people in Punjab. About 76% opioid dependent individuals in Punjab are in the age group of 18 to 35 years.
