New Delhi: After just one day since Delhi minister Gopal Rai’s resignation from the post of transport minister, shocking details have come to light.
Rai quit amid speculation over irregularities in the grant of contract to bus operators in connection with the much-touted AAP base premium bus service.
Within 24-hours alarming details have emerged that show how passenger safety and security norms were diluted by the AAP government in the contract terms to woo private bus aggregators.
The terms and contracts of the Delhi government under the Shiela Dikshit government consisted of 54 points detailing stiff penalties and service terms for bus operators.
Ironically under the AAP government, in these pages these 54 terms have been whittled down to just 14. Some of the terms dropped relate to passenger security and safety. There are also dilutions in the eligibility criteria.
The contrasting terms and the extensive dilutions pose one basic question that the Congress and BJP are asking — was AAP risking lives to favour a particular vendor?
