New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has cancelled Teesta Setalvad’s NGO’s Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) licence after grave irregularities were found in the account books and the manner in which the funds were being utilised by her NGO.
Teesta’s NGO, Sabrang Trust, had been under the scanner for some time now.
The MHA had earlier suspended the FCRA licence of Teesta Setalvad’s Sabrang Trust, but now the licence has been completely revoked. All her account books were checked and verified before cancelling the licence.
During the suspension she could have still managed to go ahead and receive some funds for her NGO, but following the current decision by the MHA, Teesta will not be in any way able to receive any funds at all from foreign contributors, even with the prior permission of the MHA.
Earlier she could accept contributions after taking permission from the Home Ministry, but now after the licence being revoked, she will have access to no funds at all from foreign contributors.
