New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from South Delhi, Naresh Yadav was named in an FIR related to a recent case of alleged Quran ‘desecration.’
Yadav was booked by the Sangrur police when the alleged mastermind of the case, Vijay Kumar that the desecration was done on the behest of Yadav and that he was offered Rs 1 crore for carrying out the act.
Vijay Kumar told that he had a meeting with Yadav in Delhi wherein he was asked to tear the pages of Quran and throw them near a drain on Khanna road in Malerkotla, Punjab.
He also told that the intent was to create communal tension in Punjab ahead of 2017 polls. The plan was to instigate people on communal lines so that they vote for AAP, and not for SAD-BJP and Congress, in the upcoming polls.
Yadav has been booked under 109 and 153-A sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Punjab’s Muslim-dominated town of Malerkotla remained tense on June 25, following violence triggered by an alleged incident of desecration of Muslim holy book, the Quran.
Miscreants resorted to burning of vehicles and damaging property following rumours that torn pages of the holy book were found in a cemetery.
