NEW DELHI: The Budget Session of the Parliament begins on Monday and is expected to face a stormy session. It’s the most vital Budget session in India’s recent history, as it’s the first fully fledged budget of the Modi government that came into power 9 months ago.

The Government is facing a stern test of defending its land ordinance in the face of twin pronged offensives from Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi and Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare.

The opposition, which has been firmly opposed to the Land Ordinance bill, dubbing it as anti-farmer and pro-business lobbies is intent of starting off the session on a stormy note with protests being spearheaded by Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi. The opposition is dead against not just the bill, but also the ordinance passed by the govt, which they have termed unconstitutional.

That’s not the only woe in the government’s mind as it also has to deal with Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare, who begins his agitation against the bill at Jantar Mantar today.

Rahul Gandhi will join Anna’s agitation against the bill and he will have to sit among the common workers and not share stage with him. This comes after Anna’s invitation to the Congress VP

Earlier on Sunday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu met Congress President Sonia Gandhi to seek co-operation for the smooth functioning of the Parliament.

Before Budget Session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “It is the collective responsibility of leaders of all parties to ensure that this session runs smoothly so that the House can fulfil aspirations of people… Hope we can collectively work for the benefit of common man.”
