Karnataka: A public interest litigation (PIL) with regard to seeking a proper procedure for announcing school holidays filed by Association of Government Recognised Schools in Karnataka was dismissed by the Karnataka High Court on July 29.
The petition asked for the holidays to be declared by the department of public instructions and not by the deputy commissioner. However, the court rejected the plea stating that was filed “just for publicity and not for gaining any useful purpose.”
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice Malimath said that undeclared holidays are announced by the Deputy Commissioner of a district only in exigencies and with the intention of avoiding any untoward incident. This way, even the guardians would be happy and relaxed regarding the safety of their children.
