Guwahati (Assam): Assam on Friday unanimously passed the Constitution Amendment Bill on Goods and Services Tax (GST), thus becoming the first state to do so.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the new tax regime will be people friendly.
“Assam will be remembered as the first state in the country to ratify the GST constitutional amendment bill,” Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said.

“I declare the Bill, which was passed by both Houses of Parliament, to be ratified unanimously by Assam Assembly,” Speaker Ranjeet Kumar Dass announced in the House.
Earlier in Rajya Sabha, GST was passed with a majority of 203 votes.
