New Delhi: The first woman Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court, Manjula Chellur, will be soon sworn as second woman chief justice of Bombay high court.

She will be the first woman Chief Justice of Bombay HC from outside the state.

The appointment of Manjula comes 22 years after Justice Sujata Manohar became the first CJ of Bombay HC.

Manjula’s transfer as CJ from Calcutta HC to Bombay HC has been notified by the department of justice. She has two weeks to assume charge.

The 60-year-old Manjula was born in Karnataka and completed her Bachelor of Arts degree from Allum Sunmangalamma Women’s College, Bellary.

She received an honorary doctorate from Karnataka State Women’s University in 2013.
