New Delhi: Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu formally resigned from the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) on Wednesday. He had resigned from his Rajya Sabha post in July, earlier this year.

The news was confirmed by ANI saying, Sidhu has resigned from the BJP membership.

The move comes days after Sidhu launched his political party Awaaz-e-Punjab in Chandigarh on September 8.

The Ex-BJP member took to his Twitter handle to share the resignation letter writing, “The feelings behind resignation.”

After his resignation, it was said that Sidhu will join Aam Aadmi Party, but the former Rajya Sabha MP refuted all the speculations and launched his own party.

Sidhu will be the chief ministerial candidate of his party for the upcoming Punjab elections.

The former cricketer’s wife Navjot Kaur said she too would resign from BJP once Sidhu’s new party is set up.
