New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday cancelled the Patna High Court’s decision to grant bail to convicted gangster-turned-politician Mohammad Shahabuddin. The court has ordered Shahabuddin to be taken immediately to jail.

Shahabuddin, who was serving double life sentence including the murder of Siwan journalist Rajdeo Ranjan, was granted a controversial bail by the Patna High Court in Bihar.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had previously hinted that the former RJD leader would not be allowed to roam free. Nitish Kumar was heavily censured for the Patna High Court decision on Shahabuddin’s bail despite the fact that the don was serving two life sentences for murder. “If any don is seen outside, he will have to go to jail,” said Nitish.

Shahabuddin, who has political leaning with Lalu Prasad Yadav, was granted bail after 11 years. Lalu Yadav’s son Tejpal Yadav sparked a massive row when a picture of him along with a famed shooter was circulated on social media.
