New Delhi: Militants on late Sunday evening attacked 46 Rashtriya Rifles camp in Janbazpora area in Baramulla district of north Kashmir killing one security personnel and injuring another. The attack happened at around at 10.30 pm.

“Militants fired at the RR camp in Janbazpora area of Baramulla town late tonight… at the outpost of the camp that is manned by the BSF (Border Security Force) troopers. A gunfight started after the militants’ firing was retaliated,” a senior police officer told IANS on phone from Baramulla town.

The situation at the Rashtriya Rifles camp was later contained, the Northern Command of Indian Army said.

“Baramulla incident situation contained and under control,” the Northern Command said in a tweet from its official twitter handle.

The militants first hurled grenades at the camp and then tried to enter the Army camp through a public park nearby but they were immidiately engaged by the security forces.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh offered condolences on the death of a jawan and expressed solidarity with his family.
Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minster Omar Abdullah had tweeted about the attack saying, “Colleagues in Baramulla town are phoning with reports of massive gunfire in their vicinity. Prayers for all in the area.”
The six-hour long search operation was called off on Monday morning after militants fled the spot.
The attack comes two weeks after terrorists attacked an army camp in Uri, killing 19 soldiers.
