New Delhi: Within fortnight of the Uri terror attacks, another such attack was initiated by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists on Sunday night. At around 10.30 pm, 2-4 terrorists opened fire at a Border Security Force (BSF) camp and adjoining Rashtriya Rifles (RR) Army post in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
However, our jawans were quick in reacting and did not give terrorists a chance to enter the camp. On the contrary, terrorists fled after seeing the situation slipping out of their hand. As per the statement by the IG BSF, Kashmir, the way our forces retaliated, it compelled the terrorists to flee.
Such swift reaction from the Army came even when the terrorists were using human shield – using civilians to shield themselves. The same reason has been quoted by the Baramulla SSP behind terrorists’ escape. Due to apprehension of civilian casualty, the armed forces were unable to retaliate that effectively, leading the terrorists to flee.
There are a few things which struck everybody’s mind after this sudden attack:
Defence experts are of the opinion that due to the security being heightened and forces being more vigilant post Uri attack, Baramulla attack could be thwarted. But at the same time, the experts said that such security should be present throughout and not only after some terror attack claiming lives of our jawans, acts as the reminder of the same.
Experts also opined that there should be patrolling in such areas, especially in the camps located on the riverside.
Sensing the approaching danger and the strategy of Pakistan to suppress India by its small, but successive attacks, the experts cautioned the forces to heighten their security and be more vigilant. Also, proper equipment and weapons made available to our army personnel will definitely increase their efficiency and capability to deal with such attacks.
During the gunfight between our security forces and the militants, one of our brave jawans, Constable Nitin Kumar martyred and another, Constable Parminder Singh got injured, who was later admitted to RR hospital.
The senior leaders including Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and others applauded our valiant armed forces and congratulated them for keeping up their spirits high and responding to Pakistan in a befitting manner.
The search operation was called off at around 11 am in the morning, after the Army succeeded in foiling another cowardly attack by Pakistan.
After the surgical strikes carried out by India across the LoC, striking down at least 38 terrorists as claimed by the Indian Army officials, it was expected of Pakistan to take a back foot and think before taking any negative step against India. But on the contrary, Pakistan stayed true to its colours and used Baramulla attack as its vindictive step for hurting India’s security.
