New Delhi: The National Zoological Park in Delhi was shut down on Tuesday after birds were found dead due to H5 Avian influenza virus.

Reports said that so far nine birds have been found dead in the zoo and some of them have tested positive for H5 Avian influenza virus.

The zoo which is home to more than 1,000 animals temporarily closed for safety measure of the visitors. Surveillance will be carried out take necessary actions to control the virus.

Days ago, few ducks and pelicans were reportedly found dead in the landmark national park. Earlier this year, more than 30 spotted-deer died due to rabies.

Around 10,000 people visited the national park daily.
