New Delhi: In a big win for the ‘Right To Pray’ campaign, Haji Ali Dargah trust on Monday told the Supreme Court about its decision to allow the entry of women into sanctum sanctorum following directions from Bombay High Court.
The campaign for gender equality led by Bhumata Brigade president Trupti Desai had garnered support from women across the country.
The issue was first raised by Bhartiya Muslim Mahila Andolan, which had filed a public interest litigation in the Bombay High Court in August 2014 against the “blatant discrimination on the ground of gender alone”.
For the uninitiated, women are not allowed to enter the inner sanctum of the dargah. On the other hand, men can access the actual  burial place of the saint as well as touch the tomb.
