New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday gave clearance on the issue of road-widening on Jalandhar-Barnala Highway NH 71 in Punjab. A bench of the court cleared the Rs 2,000-crore four-laning project on the highway.
Meanwhile, the apex court also stayed the order of National Green Tribunal (NGT) on widening of roads.
In September, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said the Central government was almost ready to spend money for maintaining ecology and transplantation of the uprooted trees.
Construction work was halted as tree felling on all highways, including Jalandhar-Hoshiarpur, Phagwara-Ropar and Jalandhar-Barnala road was lying pending.
