Panaji: Goa’s first woman Chief Minister Shashikala Kakodkar passed away on Friday morning after prolonged illness. She was 81.
Shashikala Kakodkar was a prominent leader of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party. She became Chief Minister in 1973 after her father Dayanand Bandodkar’s death.
Expressing his grief over the death of Kakodkar, Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said she was a visionary leader and was always available for guidance.
“She was always available for guidance. I have gone to her on numerous occasions to seek her suggestions on various issues,” Mr. Parsekar said.
The final rites of Kakodkar will take place on Saturday, sources said.
