New Delhi: Intelligence agencies in the country have warned that the Monday police encounter of eight SIMI (Students Islamic Movement of India) activists might trigger retaliatory attack against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre and in Madhya Pradesh.

It was reported on Monday that eight SIMI activists had broken out of the Bhopal Central Jail after killing a security guard inside the heavily fortified prison. Subsequently, police gunned down all the eight SIMI activists in an encounter later in the day.

“As doubts are raised over the authenticity of the encounter and alleged videos surface to question the MP police’s version, there are genuine fears SIMI may try to fan anti-government sentiments among Muslims by alleging the encounter of the undertrials was staged,” an intelligence official said.

The intelligence agencies are apprehensive about terrorist organisations using this encounter as an instigating force to push Muslims against Modi and the BJP government in power in Madhya Pradesh.
