New Delhi: A Mumbai court on Wednesday issued a letter of request (LR) under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to extradite former IPL chairman Lalit Modi from the United Kingdom.

The order comes a day after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) pleaded the court to issue the LR for the execution of non-bailable warrant against Modi.

ED had also sought a permission to issue the letter under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty, to a competent court in the United Kingdom to bring back the first Chairman of IPL, who is reportedly residing in London, to India.

In its plea, the law enforcement agency contended that it is the sole investigative agency under the Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, Government of India, for conducting investigations under the provisions of PMLA against money laundering offences.
