New Delhi:  Amid chaos and panic due to cash crunch, a gang of currency notes exchange in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh was busted by state police.

“This gang we arrested used to exchange old notes for new ones and took some commission for it,” said Gautam Sawang, CP Vijaywada.

Since the announcement of demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 on November 8, bank robberies reportedly increased across the country.  A day ago, old currency worth Rs one crore was looted from a bank in Odisha.

Long queues at banks and ATMs continued for exchange and deposit of high denomination notes even after two weeks of demonetisation. There were hustles in bank queues as public are battling cash crunch for their daily expenses.
