According to a survey conducted by HolidayIQ, Kolkata has the smelliest public toilets followed by Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai.

A survey was conducted among 10, 000 travellers in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Pune and it revealed that Kolkata has topped the list.

“Kolkata topped the cities with the highest smelly loo quotient with 43% votes, followed by Delhi with 32% votes. About 29% felt Chennai and Mumbai public toilets were smelly, while Hyderabad got 20% votes. Pune and Bengaluru turn out have the least smelly toilets at 18% and 14%, respectively,” The Times of India reported.

The survey revealed travellers complained that there are not enough toilets near railway stations, bus stops, government offices and religious places.

In fact, 70% of them said they have changed their intended holiday destination because of the discomfort caused to them by the uncleanliness.

Hari Nair, the CEO of HolidayIQ, said, “The lack of access to sanitation affects travel, health, environment and economy. Access to cleaner toilets on a holiday is one of the key requirements of a traveller.”
