New Delhi: Leaders of Opposition parties staged a protest on Wednesday morning near Gandhi statue in the Parliament premises against Govt’s demonetisation move.

The decision to protest against the scrapping of old currency notes was taken at a meeting of opposition leaders from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

TMC Rajya Sabha member Derek O’Brien had said on Monday that the Opposition parties will hold a dharna in front of Gandhi statue on Wednesday.

“Opposition parties jointly decided that around 200 MPs will hold dharna in front of Gandhi statue on Wednesday,” said TMC Rajya Sabha member Derek O’Brien.

The Opposition has been continuously demanding the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Parliament to debate over the issue of demonetisation.

“Our demand is PM should come to the Parliament and address the issue, he was the one to announce the demonetisation decision, said D Raja of CPI(M).
