New Delhi: An Air India flight bound for Dammam from Mangaluru with 131 passengers onboard had to make an emergency landing after the Air Traffic Control saw sparks inside the plane when it took off.

After the notice, the Boeing 737-800 landed safely at the Kochi International Airport. Fortunately, no one was injured during the emergency landing.

“The aircraft was subsequently diverted to Kochi following permission from the ATC there,” the Air India spokesperson said.

The flight, IX 885, had taken off from the Mangaluru airport yesterday at around 1813 hours.

After landing at Kochi, Air India engineers carried out a thorough check up of the plane but did not find any technical snag in it. The flight then resumed around 1030 hours from Kochi.
