New Delhi: Suspected militants on Friday afternoon attacked a police party in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, killing two police personnel.

According to locals, a group of militants attacked the police personnel while they were on patrol.

A senior police officer said the attackers fired at a police patrol, killing Head Constable Tanvir Ahmad and Constable Jalal-ud-Din.

The injured constable was identified as Shams-ud-Din, who was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The attack comes hours after two militants were killed in an encounter in the Manzpora area of Nahidkhai village in Bandipora.

The entire area has been cordoned off and the search is on to nab the militants behind the attack.
