New Delhi: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday appealed to President Pranab Mukherjee on Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal issue. He said the President must exercise his power and provide SYL water to his state.

Meanwhile, former CM Bhupinder Hooda, citing the Supreme Court’s termed Punjab government’s acts as questionable and unconstitutional.

The apex court on November 10 held as ‘unconstitutional’ Punjab’s 2004 law intended to deny Haryana its share in the Sutlej-Yamuna waters. Khattar had said that the court’s decision on the vital issue was a result of persistent efforts made by the present BJP government in the state.

Later, Punjab Congress leader Amarinder Singh announced his resignation from the Lok Sabha membership to protest over SYL canal issue. He termed Supreme Court’s ruling on a Presidential Reference an “injustice” done to Punjab.
