New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday while rejecting the plea of a Muslim Air Force official Ansari Aftab Ahmed, ordered that Mulsim personnel in the Air Force will not be able to sport a beard during the tenure of their service.
Air Force personnel can’t sport a beard, the Supreme Court said in its order and junked and appeal by a Muslim man to keep his beard during service.
The Apex Court upheld the sacking of the petitioner Ansari Aftab Ahmed, who had asserted sporting beard as a facet of his fundamental right to freedom of religion, and seek equality with Sikhs, who are allowed to sport unshorn hair and turban.
The Supreme Court also mentioned that these regulations do not interfere with religious rights of individuals and that they have the sanctity of ensuring discipline.
