New Delhi: Soon after the Upper House (Rajya Sabha) of the Parliament was adjourned sine die, opposition leaders on Friday met President Pranab Mukherjee and discussed the demonetisation issue.

However, Mulayam Singh Yadav led SP, Mayawati’s BSP and NCP stayed away from meeting the President.

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge after meeting the President briefed media and said, “We told President that we wanted a discussion on demonitisation in Parliament, on problems faced by farmers and small traders, etc.”

Hitting out at the government, Mallikarjun said that it was due to the government’s attitude that parliament failed to function. We tried to discuss demonetisation but the government did not agree on it.”

We are people representative, it is important to mention that how badly the government’s demonetisation has failed. People have become unemployed, they don’t have money, famers’ do not have money… therefore we wanted to keep all these issue in front of the government.

Earlier in the day, a Congress delegation led by party vice-president Rahul Gandhi met PM Narendra Modi and urged him to waive off farmers’ loan.
