New Delhi: Income tax officials have unearthed assets worth 16o crores from the houses and offices of Congress minister and another senior party official in the state of Karnataka.
The officials have found nearly 41 lakhs in cash and 12 kilos of gold and jewels from the homes and offices of Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi and Laxmi Hebbalkar, NDTV reported. The latter heads the Women’s Wing of the Congress.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is yet to speak on this recovery of undeclared assets.
“The searches led to the admission of undisclosed income of Rs. 162.06 crore and unexplained cash amounting to Rs. 41 lakh,” said an income tax official.
Officials investigating the case also claimed that massive cash deposits had been made in the accounts of the politicians’ family.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8 declared a war against black money and introduced demonetisation of the old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.
