Andhra Pradesh police have made arrest in a 3-year-old case which pertains to a machete attack on a woman inside an ATM kiosk in Bengaluru.

32-year-old Madhukar Reddy was arrested from Madanapalle on Saturday. He is a resident of Muddula Vadapalli village of Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh.

“The accused Madhukar Reddy was arrested in 2005 on charges of a murder. In 2011, he was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment but had managed to escape from prison while being shifted to a hospital from Kadapa central prison. Since then, he had travelled across south India and confessed to have committed five murders and one attempt to murder (the attack in ATM),” police said on the arrest.

Police said that Reddy was planning to rob a jewellery store in Madanapalli in Chittoor district.

The ATM attack took place in Bengaluru on November 19, 2013 where Jyothi Uday, a Corporation Bank employee, was attacked with the machete inside the bank ATM. The incident was captured on CCTV camera.
