VK Sasikala, who is all set to become the next Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, said in a party meet on Sunday that it was O Panneerselvam who insisted that she should take over as the CM.

‘Chinamma’ was formally elected as the Legislative Assembly Chief of Tamil Nadu’s ruling party All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Sunday at party headquarters.

The soon-to-be CM also revealed in the meet that it was Panneerselvam who had also urged her to take charge as party’s General Secretary following Jayalalithaa’s demise in December.

While remembering ‘Amma’, she also assured that her government will work for the welfare of the people. “Tamil Nadu Government will follow the principles of Amma”, she said.

Sasikala will be sworn in as the state Chief Minister on February 7, 2017 along with Panneerselvam who will now be the Deputy CM.

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), which is the main opposition party in Tamil Nadu has said it will not accept Sasikala as the chief minister, calling it a ‘black day’ for the state.
