Delhi Police on Monday arrested a wanted criminal with a reward on his head from Nehru Place, New Delhi after engaging in a brief shootout.

The shootout occurred in the early morning of Monday when Akbar and his accomplice Asif fired at the police team. Two policemen were injured in the shootout. 

Akbar, who carries a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head, was in the wanted list of the Delhi Police.

In the shootout which ensued near the Nehru Place Metro Station, over 13 rounds of bullets were fired. A police spokesperson said that a police team tried to stop the criminals, whose exact number was not known, near Eros Hotel in south Delhi’s Nehru Place when one of them opened fire, injuring two cops.

The captured was identified as Akbar, while most of the criminals fled the scene, the spokesperson added.

Akbar’s accomplice reportedly escaped the clutches of police.
