Chennai Apollo hospital for the first time, addressed a press conference over J Jayalalithaa’s health history on Monday. Dr Richard Beale, who was in-charge of her treatment, revealed that it was severe infection with damage to organs that led to her death.

Jayalalithaa was hospitalised after she became suffered from a serious lung infection. She was hospitalised for nearly three months. She died of a massive cardiac arrest on December 5.

There had been various speculations about the health conditions of former Tamil Nadu CM as largely the status of her health was concealed.

Dr Beale said, “she was conscious and responding” after her condition improved somewhat after the initial infection.”

The British doctor in-charge of Jayalalithaa’s treatment said that she used to communicate in sign language.
