AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala on Wednesday was sent to Parappana Agrahara jail in Bengaluru after Supreme Court turned down her request seeking more time to surrender. She arrived in the jail premises with her relatives Elavarasi and VN Sudhakaran, who are also accused in the disproportionate assets case.
“Sasikala arrived in the jail premises with her relatives Elavarasi and VN Sudhakaran from Chennai,” the official said.
She formally surrendered before a trial court set up in the prison complex and will be serving a 4-year jail term in the DA case.
Sasikala, 59, was sent to a women’s cell in the Central Jail soon after she reached Bengaluru in a convoy of cars from Chennai.
A prison official told journalists that the long-time confidante of the late J. Jayalalithaa, who was Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu when she passed away on December 5, is expected to make candles in jail.
Before leaving for Bengaluru, Sasikala took a vow in front of her friend and former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s Memorial on Marina Beach.
Here are some of the demands that Sasikala put forth before the jail authorities:
*Sasikala requested the jail authorities to give her Class-1 facility, 24×7 medical facility and a place for meditation.
*Provide her home cooked food
*A separate toilet in jail
*24-hour running hot water
