In a brief encounter with Maoists, two personnel of the Chhattisgarh Special Task Force (STF) were killed on Wednesday at the forested area of Mardapal in Kondagaon district.

After the encounter, the police claimed that they had killed at least four rebels. However, their bodies could not be recovered. Kondagaon district is located about 260 km south of Raipur.

“Based on a tip-off about the presence of Maoists close to Mardapal, a joint team of STF and the specially trained district reserve guards (DRG) launched a search operation on Wednesday afternoon when the ultras opened fire on the troopers. The security personnel swiftly retaliated to the attack. In the encounter that continued for an hour, we lost two jawans,” the New Indian Express quoted Kondagan superintendent as saying.

To avail more assistance to the security forces deployed in the region, a rescue team has been sent to carry out search-operations. Strangely, no one was injured in the encounter.
