The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday ordered a First Information Report (FIR) against Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati for his involvement in a rape case.
The woman complainant said that she was raped by Prajapati 3 years ago when the minister laced her tea with sedatives. She said that she became unconscious and that the minister took compromising pictures of her that had been used later to blackmail and rape her.
The SC has now ordered for an FIR in the case and may arrest Prajapati if he is found guilty by the court.
This development has come as a setback for the Samajwadi Party and the Congress Party who are campaigning together for the ongoing Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is yet to speak on the case.
