Indian Navy’s second ocean-going sailboat INSV Tarini was inducted in Goa on Saturday.
The induction took place at the INS Mandovi Boat in presence of Navy staff. It will be a platform for ‘1st Indian All Women Circumnavigation of the Globe’ expedition of the Navy. The six-member expedition will be led by Lieutenant Commander Vartika Joshi. Previously, the team sailed INSV Mhadei to Visakhapatnam from Goa for the International Fleet Review 2016.
INS Tarini was designed in Netherlands and has been built by Aquarius Shipyard Pvt Ltd at Divar, Goa. It carries a suite of six sails six sails including a main sail, head sails, downwind sails and a storm sail. The 25 metre long mast of the sailboat has been Southern Spars, Cape Town in order to enable it to sail in extreme conditions.
