In a bitter case of rivalry over sport, a 24-year-old boy was shot dead by two bike borne assailants when he was on his way home in Najafgarh’s Chawala area of West Delhi.
The 24-year-old victim was later identified as Dinesh alias Mangu. The gruesome incident took place on Sunday morning when he was on his way home after a game of cricket.
As per official reports, the victim was being tailed by two men on bike and as Dinesh was about to reach his home, one of the accused got off from his bike and opened fire on Dinesh. Victim collapsed after one bullet got into his back.
Commenting on the incident, an investigation officer said, “He was shot thrice. The killer had shot him twice on his head to finish the job after the initial one bullet to his back.”
The duo has been detained by the police. Authorities also said that the accused claimed that Dinesh alias Mangu had hit them last week in a cricket match while playing for a rival team. He had also, allegedly, snatched their phone. When Mangu was called to return the phone, he challenged them to getting the phone back. “This infuriated the accused who decided to settle the issue through force,” said a senior police officer.

The body was left untouched on road for hours before it was shifted to a nearest hospital for post-mortem. Asserting an angle of money dispute, victim’s family claimed that he was recently involved in an expensive property deal.
“Dinesh was riding pillion and he fell off the scooter. Even as he was bleeding, the accused shot him again and drove away before his friend could raise an alarm. The friend immediately called up the police and Dinesh’s family members after which he was rushed to a hospital but was declared brought dead,” said a senior police officer.
The police are going through the captured CCTV footages in order to establish the identity of the absconding accused.
