Niece of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, Deepa Jayakumar launched her new party on the occasion of her aunt’s birth anniversary on Friday.

Deepa announced the name of her party and the party flag. The party name is ‘MGR Amma Deepa Peravai’. She also said that her party will definitely take part in the upcoming Tamil Nadu local body elections.

Jayalalithaa’s niece, Deepa Jayakumar decided not to join hands with O Panneerselvam and floated her new party. While addressing the media Deepa said, “There is a traitor group working behind the govt and we will work continuously to throw away this group.”

Political instability has only just ended in the state of Tamil Nadu. Yet, when it comes to celebrating J Jayalalithaa’s birth Anniversary today there is no let-up in zeal and extravagance.

Huge posters, life-size cut-outs, new welfare projects, elaborate functions and display of loyalty by the cadres of AIADMK have always marked 24th February, the birthday of the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.

This year too, festivities reached a pinnacle but with one difference, following Jayalalithaa’s death on 5th December. The celebrations today were marked by a tussle between the two factions that have emerged in recent weeks.

The duel between the two camps — one led by Jayalalithaa’s confidante, AIADMK General Secretary VK Sasikala and the other by the late leader’s trusted lieutenant, ousted Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam. It will be evident as they try to steal the show and project themselves as the real loyalists.
