As the Assembly Elections in Uttar Pradesh are underway, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah in an exclusive interview to NewsX spoke about the ‘Modi wave’ in the state of UP, BJP’s performance, Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in Maharashtra and the current clashes in Delhi University.  

Responding to whether BJP will form government in Uttar Pradesh, Amit Shah said, “There is no question of BJP not forming a government of its own in UP. We will get approximately 2/3rd majority in the state.”

Speaking on BJP’s election campaign in the state, Amit Shah said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the biggest face of our campaign as he is our biggest leader. On all 403 seats, we will be either first or second.”

“BJP organised its ‘Parivartan’ rallies all across the state and it has received a good response,” Amit Shah added.

Talking about what people think about the BJP-led government in the Centre, Amit Shah said that even after two and half years of this government in power, peoples’ confidence and faith in PM Modi and in this government has increased. 

Post demonetisation and its impact on the party, the BJP President said that there is no question of a negative impact of the decision; the entire people of this country were standing like a rock with PM Modi.

Putting his view forward on SP family feud, Amit Shah said that whether it was a strategy by SP party or not, its not going to benefit them.

The BJP President Amit Shah also spoke on BJP-Shiv Sena break up in Maharashtra BMC and said, “The state unit will decide on this after discussing it with the Shiv Sena.”

Speaking on BJP led government performance so far, Amit Shah said that the government has tried to uplift poor by opening their bank accounts and by implying government schemes like building toilets, ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign and through other initiatives.

“People of the nation are satisfied with the government’s performance,” Amit Shah added.

On Ramjas issue, the BJP president said, “Freedom of speech can be used against a person, idea or the government but freedom of speech cannot be misused against a nation.”

“When has there been no violence on college campuses? Such things keep happening among students but anti-national slogans cannot be tolerated in any college,” Amit Shah said.
