India on Thursday slammed Pakistan’s after the reports of later proposing to declare the conflict region of Gilgit-Baltistan as its fifth province.
Can’t comment on news reports, but the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir is and will remain an integral Indian part, said MEA.
Pakistan’s minister for inter-provincial coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada on Wednesday while talking to Geo TV channel said that Pakistan under a committee headed by former national security advisor Sartaj Aziz proposed to give province status to Gilgit-Baltistan region.
“The committee recommended that Gilgit-Baltistan should be made a province of Pakistan,” said Pirzada.
Gilgit-Baltistan is the northernmost administrative territory in the Pakistan-occupied region of Kashmir.
The region is the disputed area along with Aksai Chin, the Shaksgam Valley, and Jammu, Ladakh, and the Valley of Kashmir.
Reacting to the reports Ram Madhav, of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) said that Pakistan has divided POK into Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
We have long maintained our stand since 1948 that POK is a part of India, he added.
