A Bharatiya Janata Party meeting on the issue of release of separatist leader Masarat Alam here today saw many leaders expressing strong views, with even demands that the party should snap the ties with PDP.
“Not one but all the BJP MLAs and ministers who were present in the meeting today conveyed this to the central leadership that BJP should discontinue its support of this coalition government,” a BJP MLA, who was part of the meeting, told PTI on the condition of anonymity.
He said the state BJP leadership has conveyed this to party’s central leadership that this “anti-India stand” of Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed will not be tolerated.
“Majority of the MLAs of BJP were of the opinion that BJP should come out of this coalition,” he said.
He said the party MLAs, MLCs and ministers who were part of the meeting asked the party state in charge Avinash Rai Khanna who had specially come to chair the meeting that the party cannot play with the security and integrity of the nation.
“We are not power hungry and we cannot play with the national security, national security is paramount to us and the release of…Masarat Alam is a threat to the national security, we have conveyed our decision to the central leadership of the party… we were of the opinion that the party must come out of it,” he said. He said Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed has deviated from the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) which was signed by both the parties for the sake of peace and development of the state.
“We had agreed to form the government based on common minimum programme (CMP), what is the fun of continuing with this government when the terms of the CMPs are not being followed,” he said.
While speaking to the reporters soon after the meeting, president of the state unit of the party and MP from Jammu, Jugal Kishore Sharma said, “We are not power hungry and we have been hurt with this unilateral decision.”
“Party has taken this issue (release of Masarat Alam) very seriously and is disappointed with this unilateral decision,” he said.
He said the party has decided to convey its displeasure to the chief minister and the coalition partner.
“We are not going to tolerate any such statement or any such decision which is not as per the CMP that we had agreed upon, we have decided to convey our displeasure to our partner,” he said.
President of the state unit of BJP youth wing and MLA of Nowshera Ravinder Raina said his party would protest the release of Alam, saying that his release was an insult to the nation.
“His release is an insult to the nation and we will not tolerate this insult of the country, not one but we are ready to sacrifice thousand governments for the sake of the honour of our country,” Raina said. For all the latest National News, download NewsX App
