The Samajwadi Party (SP) workers on Saturday protested against the Goods and Services (GST) tax that was launched in a special midnight Parliament session on June 30. Party workers in their ‘Rail Roko’ protest stopped Ganga Gomti express train in Allahabad.

Yesterday also traders who were getting the support of the Samajwadi Party had also protested in other places of Uttar Pradesh. The protests were carried out in Varanasi, Allahabad and Ghaziabad respectively.

Some protesters even called for a ‘Bharat Bandh’ but its impact is not visible on the ground.

However, the move by SP workers to protest against GST and SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav attending the launch event at the Central Hall of the Parliament doesn’t clarify party’s stand on the biggest reform after the Independence.

The GST function kick started with the speeches by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, President Pranab Mukherjee and PM Modi in the presence of Vice President Hamid Ansari, former prime minister HD Deve Gowda, state ministers among a host of legal dignitaries.

Breaking the jinx of almost 11 years, GST has been implemented effectively from 1 July 2017 (today).

President Pranab Mukherjee during the launch event of GST said, “This historic moment is the culmination of 14 year long journey which began in December, 2002.”
