Roopa Ganguly led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation of 19 party leaders were stopped by the Kolkata Police near Micheal Nagar when the delegation was on their way to visit riot-hit Baduria area in North 24 Parganas district.
The BJP delegation was stopped when they were close to the airport. After being detained, Roopa Ganguly led BJP delegation was brought at the Airport police station for further questioning.
While speaking to PTI, a senior police officer of Bidhanagar police Commissionerate said that we had already told the delegation that since the situation in the area is sensitive, nobody is being permitted to visit the area.
The officer said, “We informed them about the situation but the delegation was adamant and said that either they will court arrest or march forward, following which we had to detain them.”
Michael Nagar station falls within the limits of Bidhanagar Police Commissionerate.
However, the delegation was granted bail later in the day.
Previously, a team from LEFT and the Congress was also stopped by the police citing law and order situation.
