A Senior Congress leader from was booked by Pune police on Monday on the charges of allegedly raping a woman, including ‘unnatural sex’.
Accused Rohit Tilak is grandson of late Jayantrao Tilak, who was a senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament.
Further disclosing the matter, a police official said that in the complaint by a 40-year-old woman, the victim alleged that the accused had been repeatedly raping her on the pretext of marrying her.
Notably, the accused and the victim knew each other for a couple of years, official added.
Following the complaint, a case has been registered against Congress leader Rohit Tilak and the accused has been booked under the charges of rape, unnatural offences, voluntarily causing hurt, insult with intent to provoke breach of peace and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
In 2014, Rohit had contested for Maharashtra Assembly polls from the Kasba Peth seat in Pune against the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Girish Bapat, which he lost.
