Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated Ram Nath Kovind for winning the Presidential Election against United Progressive Alliance (UPA)’s candidate Meira Kumar with a thumping majority.

“Congratulations to Ram Nath Kovind Ji on being elected the President of India! Best wishes for a fruitful & inspiring tenure,” PM Modi tweeted.

Ram Nath Kovind, who secured more than 65% of vote share, PM Modi said, “Gladdened by extensive support for Ram Nath Kovind among MPs and across various states. I thank members of electoral college.”

PM Modi also thanked UPA’s candidate Meira Kumar and said, “I also congratulate Meira Kumar for her campaign, which was in spirit of democratic ethos and values we all are proud of.”

PM Narendra Modi further tweeted his 20 year old pictures with Ram Nath Kovind saying, “20 years ago and the present … always been a privilege to know you, President Elect”.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah also congratulated Ram Nath Kovind for his emphatic victory in the 2017 Presidential elections. His victory is truly historic.

“I thank BJP members, NDA family, other valued parties and leaders who supported Ram Nath Kovind ji,” BJP President Amit Shah said. 

Ram Nath Kovind secured 2930 votes with value of 7,02,044 while Meira Kumar secured 1,844 votes with the value of 3,67,314; 77 invalid.
